Simple starting for motors that do not need frills

A direct on line starter connects a motor straight to the supply, and for many small and medium motors that is all you need. Water pumps, blowers and small conveyors are typical examples. The design is simple, which also means fewer things to go wrong.

A basic DOL panel contains a contactor, an overload relay, a short circuit protection device and start-stop controls. Choosing the right overload setting for the motor is important, since it is what stops the winding from burning out under load. We set and verify this before dispatch.

There are limits to keep in mind. A DOL start draws a large current for a moment, which can cause voltage dips on weaker supplies. For bigger motors we might suggest a soft starter or star delta arrangement instead, and we say so plainly.

Key Highlights

Simple and reliable

Few components mean fewer things that can fail.

Correct overload setting

Checked against the motor before dispatch.

Auto and manual modes

Useful for pumps with tank level control.

Quick delivery

Standard sizes are usually ready sooner.

We build single-motor panels as well as ones that control several pumps with auto and manual selection. Options include float switches for tanks, timers, ammeters and dry run protection. Tell us how the motor is used and we will fit the features to it.

These panels are among our quickest to deliver, and we can make them in standard sizes for repeat orders. Contractors and dealers who buy regularly often keep a supply of them with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Up to what motor size is DOL suitable?

It depends on your supply strength and utility rules. Small and medium motors are generally fine, while larger ones may need a soft starter or star delta to limit starting current.

Can the panel include dry run protection?

Yes. We can add a dry run relay or float switches so the pump stops if water runs out.
