Picking the right PLC platform for your panel

Many buyers come to us saying they need a PLC panel and little else. That is a fine place to start, because the first real decision is which PLC platform the panel should be built on. Siemens, Mitsubishi, Delta, Allen-Bradley and others all have strengths, and the best one depends on your plant.

We usually ask three simple things. What does your maintenance team already know, what spares are sitting in your store, and how many I/O points will you need now and in two years. Answers to these save more money than any discount on hardware.

Once the platform is settled, we size the panel with room to grow. Leaving a few spare I/O points and a bit of free space in the enclosure is cheap now and painful to add later. We have seen too many panels that were full on day one.

Key Highlights

Brand-neutral advice

We recommend the platform that suits your plant, not the one we stock most.

Spares-friendly choices

Components are picked so your store and maintenance team can support them.

Design and build together

The same people draw and wire the panel, so drawings match reality.

Expansion ready

Extra I/O points and free space keep future changes cheap.

Our workshop handles cutting, mounting, wiring and testing under one roof, so the people who design the panel are the same ones who see it being built. That keeps drawings and reality close to each other. Changes requested midway are easier to handle for the same reason.

Every panel goes out with circuit diagrams, a bill of materials and a copy of the PLC program where applicable. Keep these safe, because they make future repairs far quicker. If you lose them, we usually still have our copy on file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which PLC brand should I choose?

Usually the one your maintenance team already knows and can source spares for. If you are starting fresh, tell us your budget and I/O count and we will explain the options honestly.

Do I get the PLC program with the panel?

Yes, where we have written it we hand over a backup copy along with the drawings, so you are never dependent on us for access.
